This is a large garden near Henley on Thames with a series of interesting brick & flint buildings & lovely barns. My brief was to design a scheme for within the walled garden & make something more of the entrance & front of the house. The walled garden is seen from the house & my client’s office which forms part of it. As you can see here it was a completely blank canvas.
I designed the walled garden with a classic French fountain at its heart to provide year round interest, a lovely sound & also to tie in with the heritage of the surrounding buildings. I created pretty parterres leading on from a large new dining terrace & deck which incorporates a scandinavian timber hot tub to soothe aching limbs after a run which is my clients hobby.
Beyond this is a BBQ area, formal lawns with multi-stem amelanchiers for structure & Spring flowers & a kitchen garden with beautiful green oak raised beds. My clients are fairly keen gardeners so didn’t want the usual low maintenance option. Instead we’ve planted fruit trees along the new walls & lots of pretty romantic white flowers in the front garden.
