The Old Nurseries
This is a large garden in Berkshire – originally a nursery.
Anne is a successful shoe designer & her husband flies helicopters in his spare time so we had to consider a space to land! The house is modern so I designed a series of simple squares as the theme.
Box edging, purple lavender, bay trees & rich purple beech for clarity.By using a minimal palette, the whole garden is unified.
The Summer house between the square pools with its green oak supports is a perfect shelter & party zone whilst also reflecting the style of the main house. This garden was designed to work year round with a great structure, evergreen planting & sightlines to work from the house & back to it from the pool.
Beyond all this were paddocks where we’ve planted heritage trees to flourish over the next 50 years & make this garden even more beautiful for future generations.
Here is Ann’s review “Joanne was an absolute delight to work with. Her knowledge was immense so when she sat with us initially to talk about the type of design that we were looking for, she had a lot of input and ideas. We did not really have a firm budget as the idea was to create the design and then implement it over a period of time. Joanne understood what we were looking for and came up with a fantastic plan. This comprised of a scale drawing of the garden and a booklet detailing the planting and specifications for each area. It has taken us a few years to complete the work and we are almost finished – just boring stuff like getting the drive re-done now. The outcome is fantastic and this summer we have enjoyed having friends and family over for BBQ’s etc. and have really enjoyed thgarden. The compliments have been many. We would strongly recommend Joanne and in fact have done to some friends of ours. She has just completed a design for them which we are yet to see, but it sounds wonderful”.
