stone fountain in formal french style walled garden with parterre. Design by Jo Alderson Phillips www.joannealderson.com

Jo Alderson Phillips is a leading garden designer based in Oxfordshire on the Cotswold border. With over 30 years experience, Jo has won many awards including at the prestigious RHS Chelsea Flower Show. She creates stylish, bespoke, considered gardens for discerning clients with excellent attention to detail & works with a team of fantastic craftsmen who build & plant her gardens to the highest standard.

With a background in textile design Jo has a great eye for proportion, colour & structure. Her gardens are distinctive & deceptively simple. Each design is unique but very much a collaborative process with her clients.

"How can I help? My aim is to create gardens that are bespoke & personal to my clients. I listen to what you don't want in addition to what you do want. All my schemes are well structured and work through the seasons - winter is a long time so a good structure is vital! I don't have a studio full of designers or an admin team; It's just me as I would hate another designer putting my name to their work. I give clear advice & you get proper personal service...."

Jo practices what she preaches & designs all her own gardens too. This one here is her Cotswold barn conversion, Manor Farm Barn where she currently lives with her husband Tony & their briard Bruno

Jo is a creative person through & through. Originally trained with a degree in textile design she retrained & changed career twenty years ago. After a successful Chelsea where she also won the prestigious Peoples Choice Award, she now works with such an array of interesting clients & projects.

Jo loves to draw & all garden & landscape designs are fully illustrated by her to show her clients just how their new garden might look.

Many of Jo’s gardens feature in magazines such as House & Garden & Cotswold Life. Several are now open to the public under the National Gardens Scheme & her designs have garnered recognition with many awards.

Jo also writes a blog 'fairly' regularly to discuss her life as a garden designer, what's going on, where she's been & what she's been drawing. It's a behind the scenes look at all things garden design. A job she loves...
